STEPH’S STORY

I wasn’t always overweight.  In my youth I was a competitive gymnast, school dance team member for years and then group fitness instructor after college.  My health was important to me, I ate well and got a lot of exercise and I kept my weight at a healthy number.

 

In June of 2002 my father committed suicide.  We had a strained relationship at the time and I never got the chance to reach out to him and make things right.  Slowly the grief and guilt I felt about this led me to begin a pattern of emotional eating.  I ate to suppress my feelings and eventually I ate to punish myself.  Deep down I didn’t feel like I deserved to be healthy, attractive or happy.  I was also a fitness professional and gym owner, so tipping the scales at 260 pounds was not only extremely unhealthy, it was completely unprofessional of me and embarrassing.

 

Over the years I built a successful business from the sidelines.  I parented from the sidelines.  I’d joke and say I was in the witness protection program to avoid being in photographs.  I tried my best to become completely anonymous in this world.  But living a conflicted life like that can only go on for so long.  You grow tired of remembering what you used to be, of being in physical pain from the excess weight and emotional pain from it as well.

 

While attending IDRevolution with my husband in September 2014 John Maxwell, during his tremendous presentation, asked us to write down our 5 gifts we had to give to the world.  I couldn’t think of one – no matter how hard I tried.  I was at that much of a low point.  Not long after that I overheard my three teenage daughters discussing how I’d gained weight being pregnant with them.  But that wasn’t the case!  I’d had healthy pregnancies and took good care of myself.  I gained weight after and it was my fault entirely.  At that moment I thought to myself, “What kind of role model am I being for my kids?  You have kids, gain weight, are unhappy and that’s life.  Do you REALLY want them thinking that’s what life is all about through the example you are living?”

 

I had come to the realization that I hadn’t hit rock bottom – I was EXISTING there and I had been for years.  I couldn’t accept that any longer.

 

In 2015 I got real with myself, got busy and lost 130 pounds.

 

My programs enable people who have 50 or more pounds to lose an alternative to traditional short-term weight loss programs that don’t address the underlying emotional issues which fueled such a large weight gain. You’ll build a foundation of emotional and mental preparedness while embarking on my fitness and wellness program. This will help you get to the root of what caused and has maintained your weight gain and dependence upon unhealthy foods and habits. From there you’ll learn how to remain in a state of feeling positive and in control of your individualized short and long-term fitness and wellness goals.
